Sony Integrates AIVISON’s AMR / AGV Robots to Enhance Production Efficiency and Smart Management

Sony Technology (Thailand) Co., Ltd., established in December 1988, serves as a leading global manufacturing base for Sony-branded products. It specializes in producing key components such as digital cameras, interchangeable lenses, automotive audio systems, and car cameras. Starting in February 2024, the company began operations of several new production lines at its new factory, “Building 4.” This factory will focus on the assembly of image sensors for automotive applications and display devices, as well as the mass production of laser diodes for data center applications. Additionally, the company is working to introduce the production of Xperia™ mobile phones in Thailand and expand its production lines at the Bangkadi Industrial Park facility.

The production process involves numerous steps from raw materials to finished products, with some requiring secondary processing. The logistics routes and equipment layout must be comprehensively planned to ensure smooth production flow.

The production environment demands a high level of dust protection, with cleanliness standards reaching Class 100 or higher. Equipment must meet strict anti-dust and anti-static requirements to maintain product quality and workplace safety.

Due to the complex interactions between production processes, logistics planning must be precise to meet the high demands for accurate and timely delivery. The supplier must have extensive industry experience to handle the complexities of the production environment.

In addition to improving efficiency, it is crucial to alleviate the physical strain on workers, especially in warehouse operations, where challenges such as labor shortages and difficulty in hiring persist.

To address the complexities in the production processes and improve operational efficiency, Sony has introduced AIVISON’s AMR / AGV robots for automation and intelligent process management. These robots can interface with equipment with high precision and support integration with automatic doors, lifts, elevators, and other automated devices, ensuring smooth information flow between different production stages. This automation solution enhances operational efficiency, reduces the logistics handling burden, and creates a more efficient, cost-effective, and flexible smart production environment.

By deploying AMR / AGV robots to automatically transport materials such as PCB boards to designated workstations, the overall material inspection and retrieval efficiency increased by 32%. The utilization of production space improved by 40%, reducing material stacking and ensuring a more organized workspace. This solution eliminates the need for manual searching in temporary storage areas, meeting strict dust control requirements. Additionally, it reduces manual labor intensity, enabling automatic material supply at different production stages, and increasing overall production stability.
